An Authentic Dialogue & Conflict Resolution Course

Course Description

In this engaging and interactive series of workshops, participants will learn essential skills for effective communication, conflict resolution, and peer coaching. Through a combination of discussions, role-play, and hands-on activities, participants will develop empathetic listening, empathetic questioning, tolerance, honest expression, and self-awareness. By the end of the course, they will be equipped with practical tools to reduce conflicts among peers and help build a more harmonious and supportive community.

Each workshop is expected to last approximately 45-60 minutes.

This course is designed for participants in schools (age 12+), universities, community groups, and organizations.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Authentic Dialogue and Conflict Resolution

  • Overview of the course and its objectives

  • Understanding the importance of authentic dialogue and conflict resolution

  • Icebreakers and team-building activities

  • Introduction to the concept of empathy

Workshop 2: Empathetic Listening

  • The art of active listening

  • Non-verbal communication and body language

  • Practicing empathetic listening through paired activities

  • Sharing personal experiences of empathetic listening

Workshop 3: Empathetic Questioning

  • Importance of asking open-ended questions

  • Building curiosity and seeking understanding

  • Role-play exercises for empathetic questioning

  • Developing question banks for differents situations/scenarios

Workshop 4: Tolerance and Acceptance

  • Exploring diversity and inclusion

  • Recognizing biases and stereotypes

  • Group discussions on the value of tolerance

  • Creating a safe space for open dialogue

Workshop 5: Honest Expression and Self-Awareness

  • The power of clear communication

  • Identifying and expressing emotions effectively

  • Cloverleaf & exploring self-awareness

  • Reflecting on personal communication styles and areas for improvement

Workshop 6: Practical Tips for Effective Dialogue and Conflict Resolution

  • Conflict resolution strategies

  • De-escalation techniques

  • Building trust and safety in relationships

  • Creating a personal action plan for improving dialogue and conflict resolution skills

Workshop 7: Role of Mediation

  • Understanding mediation and its role in conflict resolution

  • Simulated conflict scenarios

  • Learning to remain neutral and guide others/how to facilitate

Workshop 8: Peer Coaching Skills

  • Introduction to peer coaching and its benefits

  • Empathetic listening in a coaching context

  • Providing constructive feedback

  • Role-play as coaches

Workshop 9: Applying Skills in Real-Life Scenarios

  • Participants will work in groups to address real-life conflicts or issues they have encountered or are currently encountering

  • Supervised peer coaching sessions to resolve conflicts

  • Group discussions and feedback

Workshop 10: Final Reflections and Graduation

  • Sharing personal growth and experiences throughout the course

  • Graduation ceremony and certificates

  • Discussing how to continue practicing and applying the skills beyond the course
